Recalibrate the Glory
There is one simple, yet monumental, shift that you can make today to connect with God:
Recalibrate the glory.
In John 5:44, Jesus asks the religious leaders, “How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?”
I’m a words of affirmation girl. I crave words of encouragement and praise. But my heart isn’t built to survive only on uplifting words from my peers. In fact, a diet of praise from friends will leave me severely malnourished.
Charles Spurgeon said, “The praise of men generally turns the receivers of it into great cowards.”
Jesus didn’t arbitrarily ask these religious leaders about the aim of their applause for one another. He was making a statement: we are not built to carry the glory that is due God. We cannot handle the glory. We are created beings trying to hold onto glory meant only for the Creator.
Genesis 3 reminds us that humanity tried glory on only to realize it’s not a one-size-fits-all. As we grasp for glory from all around us, we will live sick trying to manage it (although many people on social media may look healthy in their glory)
To connect with God and protect our hearts, we must ask;
How can I recalibrate my cravings for glory today so that God gets it and I don’t?
Will I accept what God says about me so I am not seeking approval from others around me?
How can I make sure that He is getting the glory for all of the good I have in my life? (It all comes from Him anyway)
We recalibrate by committing the glory to God the moment we realize that we need to. We refuse to carry it, knowing that our very existence is a gift from God and that following Him and knowing His Word gives us life-changing purpose.
As we follow God, He fulfills our heart’s need for approval and significance—it’s literally built into our obedience.
Recalibrate the glory.
Reset the system.
Redirect your praise.
He is worthy and there is great work to be done today in His Name.

Thank you for speaking the truth to us today! I think this is a post I will continuously return to when I need to “recalibrate.”
Beautifully spoken. And timely received.
