The Unavoidable Droughts
Drought.
More specifically, spiritual drought.
In scripture, droughts often carry profound significance, symbolizing spiritual testing, divine judgment, and the call for repentance and renewal.
But what about seasons of our own life when we are simply feeling distant from God?
We know it well. It usually comes in the form of busyness that steals our quiet time, unanswered prayers that feel permanent, or through a person who has discouraged us so much that we question our calling. It’s not a divine judgement, but instead, can feel like the Grand Canyon of distance between ourselves and the Father.
Drought of the heart and mind can suck the air out of our day, leaving us feeling as alive and free as a robot.
Drought can be a short moment of dryness or a long season of starvation and disconnect from God and His promises. But, regardless of the duration, scripture teaches us that God remains involved. Why is this so hard to believe, though?
Because circumstances are loud. Challenges make us FEEL overwhelmed. Scripture doesn’t change another person’s words to us. We can’t HEAR the literal voice of God.
What if we accepted these realities, not as a barrier, but as the catalyst for deeper connection with God?
What if the dry seasons became moments of declaration that perceived silence from God is actually proof of His abiding with us— sitting close, holding us, letting the stillness warm us like a blanket.
His love fills all of the spaces.
He is always searching our heart and examining our mind to see if our roots of dependence will grow deeper in Him or if they will wither in the confidence of another person or material safety net.
How long will we keep our eyes on the drought rather than the Deliverer? Confidence in God “has no worries in a year of drought, it never fails to produce fruit.” Jeremiah 17:8.
When the drought comes, “know that My name is the Lord.” (16:21)
Dig in, let the goodness of His faithfulness overflow in your day. Get in His word— whether you feel like it or not— this is His communication to you. And when the world around you continues to offer water that can’t satisfy, remember that only He can fully quench your thirst.
So lift your eyes today and invite Him in. He doesn’t show up based on your past attendance record, or where you stand in or out of good graces. He’s ready now. The Well of abundance is yours to enjoy.

Very good! Faith is easy when everything's right on, and we are "all in our feelings."
Psalm 139 is also a good reminder. Thank you, awesome word. 👍🏼
I believe that if God didn't give me trials, that I would be a distant and fairweather friend. So easy to be complacent when things are going well.
